Turntablist beginningsStarting in 1989, Wicked Waiata was inspired to DJ when he watched a video of Cash Money's 1988 World DMC performance. He started learning to beat mix and eventually saved up enough to buy his own DJ system and ended up entering DJ competitions.
He'd also started DJing in Clubs at the tender age of 17 and learnt to respect the skill of playing to different crowds as well as beatmixing smoothly.
Wicked Waiata - The AlbumIn 1997, he enrolled in a Multimedia diploma and was introduced to Adobe Premiere Pro and Acid Pro. He started remixing songs, producing remix albums and finally remixing video.
Utilising those skills and inspired by DJ Rectangle, he produced his first Wicked Waiata album in 1998 to play at his family get together.
The mixture of classic party singalongs and hip hop proved so popular he made one every second year to commemorate the family get togethers.
The album was picked up by CD resellers at Markets around Australia and New Zealand and resold resulting in unprecedented sales.
Video RemixingIn 2001, he moved to Sydney, Australia and continued to DJ in clubs, becoming one of the first to DJ at a venue using the Final Scratch DVS system in 2002.
In 2005, he was one of the first Video DJs in the country that could remix Audio and Video and play them live using Pioneer's DVJ decks.
In 2006, he released Australasia's first Video Remix DVD, whilst being one of the first to upload his mixes to Youtube. His mixes amassed over a million views and still remains one of the most watched live remixing VJ sets.
15 years later and he still produces remixes and tracks while performing live Video DJ sets in NSW. One of the longest serving Club DJs in the business, he continues to astound audiences with his blend of new and remixed anthems.
